DIY Bleach Disaster? How to Fix Patchy, Uneven Hair at Home

We have all been there: watched so much YouTube DIY bleaching at home tutorials. Felt invincible, confident, and decided to bleach your hair at home to save money and time. But instead of that perfect platinum canvas, you are now staring at a horrifying patchwork of orange, yellow, and maybe even some random white streaks that make you look like a tie-dye experiment gone wrong. Then you feel like your world is collapsing. You start desperately searching for solutions, browsing through products, even considering whether to run to a salon for help—until you see those prices and remember your original DIY bleach mission was all about saving money.

But don’t be panic. Keep reading, because this guide will show you how to fix your hair disaster on a budget and still end up with gorgeous, salon-worthy color.

Step 1: Assess the Damage

First, you might figure out how bad it really is. If your hair is gummy or stretchy when wet, your hair is over-processed, and further bleaching will cause serious breakage. Focus on deep conditioning first.

If your hair is not that terrible and just got uneven color but still feels strong, you can make a further fix a home by yourself.

Step 2: Neutralize the brassiness

If your hair is already light enough but looks like a Cheeto, you need a purple shampoo. It can help to remove the unwanted yellow tone. Choose the sulfate-free one, which can gentle cleanse while effectively and evenly help to reach a clean hair base.

Step 3: Fix Patchy, Uneven Bleach with Color Correction

Option 1: Use a Semi-Permanent Dye to Blend

If some spots are too dark, apply a demi-permanent dye in a shade close to your goal color. Avoid permanent dye, which would make future corrections harder.

Option 2: The Color Depositing Conditioner

If your hair is already bleached but uneven, a color-depositing conditioner can save you. COLORLOMO Mocha Conditioner can blend patchy spots into a seamless, rich mocha shade. It is gentle, so it wont fry your already fragile hair. The mocha shade helps neutralize orange tones while adding depth, making bleach mistakes look intentional. It conditions while coloring, so your hair feels better after each use.

How to Use It:

  1. Apply on damp hair (with comb), focusing on the most uneven sections.
  2. Leave for 10-15 mins.
  3. Rinse with warm water.
